Global positioning system is often describe by its number of channels. Over the last years, as of 2006, receivers have typically have between twelve & twenty channels.

Typical accuracy of a global positioning is about 10-15 meters. It has no practical use because automobile is such a small object for locating. But with the help of differential global positioning system we can improve the accuracy of the global positioning system. By measuring the distance between difference monitor stations & broadcast the range errors they detect from each other & from every satellite, a differential global positioning system can pick up this range errors information & correlate with the satellite signals which it is receiving, to find out its true position.
