State Geological Survey of Latvia

The activities of the State Geological Survey of Latvia (SGSL) is control by the government of Latvia. The State Geological Survey of Latvia is under direct supervision of Ministry of Environment. The State Geological Survey of Latvia (SGSL) is well organized, and keep monitoring on the use of natural resources. The activities of the State Geological Survey of Latvia (SGSL) is controlled by the Ministry of Environment and the laws and regulations provided by the Latvia government. The laws and regulations are determined by the Cabinet Ministers. All laws and regulations are generated according to the use of environment.

The activities of the State Geological Survey of Latvia (SGSL) is divided into two part-


  • The tasks provided by the state government:
    • Prepare and give licenses for the use of sub soil
    • Organize good communication on the use of sub soil
    • Find out the present storage of mineral resources
    • Monitoring all geological operations
    • Collect and store all geological information
    • Provide all geological information to the society
    • Provide important geological information to the state
    • Prepare all legal administration for minimizing the illegal use of natural resources
    • Conduct extensive research on geology and its impact on environment and social life
  • Collection of geological information for economic development of the state:
    • Provide a complete package to the government, private sector, industrial sector for development
    • Collect brief information on mineral resources

The State Geological Survey of Latvia issues licenses to restrict the massive use of sub soil, mineral resources and try to store the natural resources on the basis of through study of geology of Latvia
